Glidden, Iowa is a thriving community in west-central Iowa. Located on US Highway 30 just outside of Carroll, Iowa, Glidden is just eighty miles northwest of Des Moines, Iowa. The community of Glidden boasts a high quality of life for a small city with the Aquatic Center, three major parks, two banks, library, a trail system and butterfly garden and the Glidden-Ralston school district. Glidden is known as the home of Merle D. Hay, who was the first American soldier killed in World War I. Glidden offers its residents services that are expected in larger cities. The Glidden Development Group (GDG) is an organization of volunteers dedicated to the growth of the Glidden community. Members include local businesses, individuals, local government and utility providers. Recent successes in Glidden include the construction of a four-season community center, remodeled grocery store and plans for expansion of a local financial institution. Housing is a priority, with the City of Glidden and Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative each involved in housing development, promoted by GDG.
Qualifying projects are eligible for prescriptive Iowa incentives (tax abatement, tax increment finance, etc.) as well as access to a local and regional revolving loan funds.
