Department: Board

TERM EXPIRES: December 2020

Q1. Why do you believe in the Carroll Area Development Corporation?

The Carroll Area Development Corporation is invaluable to Carroll County and I believe very strongly in the important of the organization to the local economy. I have been involved with the CADC in some capacity for nearly 25 years and have seen first-hand the benefits the organization provides to the area in business recruitment, retention, and marketing. The CADC has successfully brought together the interests and personalities of the individual communities and focused them into a cooperative effort to work together for the benefit of the entire county.

Q2. Why did you want to serve on the Board of Directors for CADC?

I am very happy to be able to serve on the CADC Board of Directors. Prior to starting at TSB in 2014, I worked for Region XII Council of Governments for nearly 18 years and had the opportunity to work directly with CADC staff on numerous projects including business expansions, area marketing, and housing to name a few. I am happy to be able to continue to contribute my planning and community development education and background and current position with a strong local community bank to the CADC. The CADC Board has a very wide variety of backgrounds and expertise in its Board that all contribute to the organization. Like most of the other CADC Board members, I have been involved with several other groups in Templeton and the County.

Q3. Why do you love to live and work in Carroll County?

I grew up in Templeton and my family’s roots in the area go back to the early days of Carroll County. I went to Kuemper and then Iowa State and graduated with a degree in Community and Regional Planning, and I specifically chose to come back home to work for the betterment of this area. As I grew up, I watched progress and growth in Carroll County and was aware of the CADC long before I even decided to go into planning as a career. My parents were also involved in local groups and projects, and my dad is currently the longest serving Mayor of Templeton. I have chosen to stay here and raise my family with two children in the Kuemper School system. I cannot think of a better place to live and work, we have the best of all worlds here.

Other Comments:

We have so many things going for us in Carroll County that can be traced back to a long history of hard work and continued efforts to succeed and grow. People here are willing to invest the time, work, and p money to keep things strong. This can be seen in all the communities in the county. While many rural areas in Iowa and around the country struggle and wither, we have been very fortunate that the people here have continued to insist that we maintain and grow, and again, are willing to reinvest in ourselves. Challenges like a struggling farm economy or retail business closures are never met with resentment and despair, we just get back to work finding other opportunities. When things need to be done, people step up and get them done.
